THE CHALLENGE

1
Balancing Form with Function

While the dynamic curves added visual drama and symbolic meaning, integrating daily spatial needs—such as lighting, ventilation, and circulation—within this unconventional shell required careful planning.

2
Structural Innovation with Concrete

Crafting the curvaceous ribbon out of concrete meant pushing the boundaries of formwork and structural integrity, all while maintaining safety and long-term durability.

3
Translating Symbolism into Built Form

The design had to evoke a sense of motion and growth without becoming overly literal, ensuring the home stood as a refined, personal statement rather than a thematic gimmick.

THE SOLUTION

Overcoming the rugged ennui of the industrial neighborhood posed challenges. The lack of pleasant views spurred the design team to innovate, turning obstacles into opportunities. OFFICE-1243 stands as a triumph over challenges, redefining its surroundings.

Concept

Fluid Form, Solid Soul

The Ribbon House is an architectural narrative woven from the raw, expressive beauty of concrete. It is a sculptural form that flows like a ribbon—anchored, yet free—capturing the dual essence of permanence and movement. Designed as a living tribute to the client’s creative journey, the house doesn’t just use concrete; it converses with it.

THE DESIGN

The varying heights, interpenetrating volumes, and a spatial lattice form a captivating visual dilemma of longevity. The construct, with its boldness and lightness, stands as a testament to the meticulous design philosophy of Studio Ardete.

The Site

The site of OFFICE-1243 is not merely a location; it's an integral element of the design. The contextual fusion of granite, gravel, and wood from the environment into the project's fabric creates a sense of fluidity, blurring the lines between the built and the natural.

THE DESIGN

The spaces are interpenetrating volumes which face away from each other, welcoming different views into the room. The swathe is created in a considerable manner which tends to complement the axial configuration by providing a refreshing sight of grandeur through exclusivity. The tonal spatiality is heightened by the windows in all directions forming a play of light across the days and seasons. The patterns thus created, makes the light an inherent material of the space providing a texture of serenity. At once both an inclusive and an exclusive affair, Skewboid offers an enticing oeuvre of benign tranquillity.
